Chris Powell's is becoming a favorite, appearing once again on the Dr. Oz show. The last time he was on the episode was about how to cut your carb cravings. The audience loves his simple, "doable" approach to tackling your weight loss issues.  Today Chris Powell's Metabolism Boosting Plan talks about how you can rev up your metabolism and make 2012 the year that you meet and exceed all of your weight loss expectations.

First off Chris Powell's squashes the notion that your metabolism is hereditary (in most cases) so if your parents are overweight, that doesn't mean that you are doomed to follow in their footsteps. In fact, if you eat correctly Chris says "The more you eat, the more you lose!"  The key ingredient to your weight loss success is going to be "belief".  He says that you don't have to think of metabolism as your friend, you can think of metabolism as your friend who is going to help you lose those unwanted pounds!

Chris has a new book out called "Choose To Lose", which teaches you how to lose weight and how to lose it for good.  No more yo-yo dieting! 


1. Have you been a yo-yo dieter in the past? Your successful at losing weight, but only to gain it back?

2. Have you reached a plateau in your weight loss efforts?

3. Do you skip meals thinking that the less you eat, the more that you will lose?

4. Are you on a calorie restricted diet?

5. Are you on low carb or carb free diet?

Dr. Oz asked the audience how well (or not so well) they fared on the test. He asked them how many answered yes to all 5 questions. Quite a few raised their hands. Dr. Oz talked to one woman, named Stacy and asked her to come come down on to the stage. Dr. Oz asked her about her weight loss problems that she has had. She said that she has been struggling with her weight her entire life. In fact, she began to question if she even had a metabolism at all because it seemed like she would gain weight if she ate anything!

Metabolism Boosting Power Plate

  1. Your metabolism power plate should consist of eating protein, veggies, and healthy complex carbohydrates and fats.  Chris Powell said that breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, and this is the time when you turn on your metabolism for the day.  Three hours after you have breakfast you should have a snack (a healthy snack, like some nuts and not a bag of chips!).  This will give your metabolism a boost until lunch.  After you eat a healthy lunch your metabolism will boost again!  Three hours later have another snack, and then 3 hours later you have dinner.  This way your metabolism has stayed boosted all day and is constantly burning the calories you have eaten.  Chris says that when you skip meals or don't allow yourself a snack your bodies metabolism is low and whatever you eat will be stored as fat.  So keep on eating (in a healthy way to lose weight!)
  2. Turn up your Metabolic Thermostat - Your thyroid gland is what regulates your "metabolism thermostat" You can adjust this thermostat by the foods that you eat.  Chris Powell says that you should opt for the healthy carbs like whole grains, sweet potatoes, beans, rainbow colored fruits and vegetables, etc... Carbohydrates are actually important when trying to lose weight because eliminating carbs can lower your thyroid function and thus lower your metabolic thermostat.
  3. Weight training to increase metabolic muscle - Chris said that you should start working your larger muscles first like your quadriceps and hamstrings. Then work the smaller muscles.  Just adding a little muscle goes a long way to increasing your metabolism and burning extra calories all day long!
